A business man was late for his flight. He reached the boarding gate just before it closed. Sweating and out of breath, he scanned his boarding pass at the counter and quickly made his way to the plane. Arriving at his seat, he greeted his companions for the next few hours: a middle-aged woman sitting at the window, and a little girl sitting on the aisle seat. After stowing his bag above, he took his place between them. After the flight took off, he began a conversation with the little girl. She appeared to be about the same age as his daughter and was busy with her coloring book. I was teaching a science class in the Australian desert and the class was quietly working (it was a nice class). I looked out the window and I commented to no one in particular, “Looks like there will be a cyclone next week.” The students mostly started laughing and one piped up “The national meteorologists said that the low would pass by without any problem.” But there was a part of the class that did not object to my announcement… the local indigenous people.   ஏதோ ஒரு ரூபத்தில் தெய்வம் எனக்கு 77 வயது... மனைவியை இழந்து பத்து வருடங்களாகிறது.அன்பின் நீரூற்ற மறந்த எத்தனையோ முதியவர்களில் நானும் ஒருவன் இருக்கின்ற நான்கு மகன்களில் ஒவ்வொரு மாதமும் ஒரு மகனிடம். இப்போது இருப்பது மூன்றாவது மகனிடம். இன்னும் நான்கு நாட்கள் இருக்கிறது கடைசி மகனிடம் செல்ல. இப்போதிருந்தே வயதான விரல்களை கொண்டு எண்ணிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறேன் கடைசி மருமகளிடம் செல்லும் நாட்களுக்காக. போன தீபாவளிக்கு இரண்டாவது மருமகள் வாங்கித்தந்த வெள்ளை வேட்டி பழுப்பு நிறமாகி பலநாட்கள் ஆகிவிட்டது. முதல் மகன் வாங்கித்தந்த கண்ணாடி உடைந்து மூன்று வாரங்கள் ஆகிவிட்டது, இப்போது இருக்கும் கோபக்கார மகனிடம் கேட்டால் என்ன சொல்வானோ என்று பயந்து கண்ணாடியை ஒளித்து வைத்துவிட்டு வெறுங்கண்களோடு தடுமாறிக்கொண்டு இருக்கிறேன். கடைசி மருமகளிடம் சொல்லி தான் மாற்றிக் கொள்ள வேண்டும். இன்னும் நான்கு நாட்கள் தான் என்பதால் எல்லோரும் வேலைக்கு போனபின்பு என்னுடைய வேட்டி ஜிப்பாக்களை துவைத்து வைத்துக்கொள்ள வேண்டும், துணி துவைக்கும் மிஷின் இருந்தாலும் என்னுடைய துணிகளை தனியாகத்தான் போடவேண்டும் என்று சொல்லி அவர்களின் ஆடையோடு க...
